The Maryland Department of Labor (MDOL) Division of Unemployment Insurance is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of UI Intermittent Associate I with the functioning title of Claims Intake Representative. This recruitment will be used to fill multiple current and future vacancies throughout the State of Maryland.This position will also work a hybrid teleworking schedule.All candidates must meet the minimum during the time apply. Main Purpose of Job
The purpose of this position is to assist in executing themission of the Department of Labor and achieving the agency's goals.This position as a UI Associate will help with unemployment insurance benefitsapplication by conducting interviews and gathering the necessary information toprocess claims that regulates the distribution of unemployment insurance benefits. Ourgoal is to provide high-quality customer-focused services that regulate the distributionof unemployment insurance benefits to support the economic stability of the state.
POSITION DUTIES
MD Unemployment Insurance Claims and Adjudication Centers
A Claims Intake Representative is the trainee level of work in the Division of Unemployment Insurance of the Maryland Department of Labor. Employees in this classification learn to perform work such as process unemployment claims in a Call Center environment.
The duties consist of the following, but not limited too:
Interviewing claimants for unemployment insurance benefits, excellent customer service isprovided over the telephone in order to obtain and record demographic, wage, and work information,as well as information regarding severance and pension payments, medical documentation, disputedeligibility status, and various other issues.
Verify eligibility and ensure prompt payment of benefits.Entering claimant information into BEACON mainframe data system, identify, investigate, andresolve problems related to individual claims for Unemployment Insurance benefits.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Must posses an Associate Degree from a accredit college or university
Experience: None
OR
Substitution Qualifications (Qualified applicants may substitute the below qualifications in lieu of the Associate Degree. Applicants must posses both education and experience in order to qualify)
Education: Must posses a high school diploma or GED
Experience:Four years clerical experience answering phones assisting customers
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior customer service experience in claims taking
- Computer experience working with various computer programs

Candidates may be responsible for providing their own transportationas needed to access meetings, remote locations, and job destinations as assigned.
All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (DOL/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to DLLR/DUI as a result of unemployment insurance overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.

BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
