When the legendary Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, a paragon of military brilliance, shares his insights, it is as if the spirit of leadership itself has chosen to articulate its essence through the eloquent voice of one who has weathered the storms of command. In the backdrop of the release of his cinematic portrayal in "Sam Bahadur," (which I am yet to watch) this interview resurfaced in my Newsfeed, offering a rare glimpse into the mind of a leader who navigated the tumultuous terrain of the armed forces during the 4 wars including World War II. My own family has two generations of Army officers between these 4 wars between my grandfather and my father. My grandfather was a doctor in the British Army mentioned-in-dispatches owing to his bravery and service during the Kohima Mission. We grew up listening to stories of Sam Manekshaw’s bravery and integrity, didn’t really understand the significance until I was much older. "There is no such thing as a wrong decision. What matters is once a decision is taken, make it right," encapsulates the essence of leadership – decisiveness coupled with a commitment to transform decisions into triumphs.Listening to Manekshaw's words cut through the complexities of leadership, providing lessons that resonate not only in the barracks but reverberate in the boardrooms where leaders grapple with seemingly insurmountable challenges. In the realm of large teams facing adversity, the Army stands as an epitome of resilience and discipline. Manekshaw’s words are a beacon for everyone at the helm of vast teams, confronting challenges that appear formidable. As the interview unfolded, Manekshaw's reflections encapsulate a lifetime of leadership, reflecting on the importance of camaraderie, resilience, and the indomitable spirit that propels teams to transcend their limits. "A soldier's first battlefield is his own mind," revealing the profound truth that leadership begins with conquering one's internal battles. In the echo of Manekshaw's words, there's a resonance that transcends generations a testament to the enduring legacy of a leader whose impact extends far beyond the battlefield.A great beginning to my day..

Delta Air Lines has done much to incorporate DEI into its culture in recent years, including a skills-first approach to hiring, development and advancement, says professor Linda Hill of Harvard Business School. At Delta, “all along, from the very first moment, it was always about the why, the what, and the how.” Hll says. “Why are we doing this? What are we going to do, and how are we going to do it? And let’s do it in a way that it’s measurable, people can be accountable, and it will be sustainable.”https://lnkd.in/ebvbF5GZ

True leadership is an act of service. We expect a lot from our police services. Police are recruited, trained and retained across the country. We want the best candidates. The people who will become leaders in the future. But what makes a great police leader? Aside from their personal attributes, skills, knowledge and experience, what other training are future leaders getting in Canada? The purpose of this one-day Policing Summit is to do a review of police leadership competencies and dive further into a deeper discussion on the training available across the country. This overview will allow the national police organizations to assess what is working well, what can be scaled down or up to meet the needs of every size of service and where there might be gaps in training. This is another area of policing where everyone seemingly operates in silos. The intention of this conversation with police associations, police governors and police leaders, is to work collaboratively and bring forward some shared perspectives.Learn more at: CAPG.ca #CAPG #CPA #Summit #Policing #Canada #Vancouver #Leadership Canadian Police Association

Title: "A Lesson in Passion and True Leadership at Cummins Gate"I had a remarkable experience at the Cummins gate recently, and it left me truly inspired. As I entered the gate for the first time, the security guard (later got to know his name - Mr. Nitin Thosar) greeted me with a warm smile and a kind "Good Morning." His passion for his job was evident, as he welcomed each car with the same enthusiasm, brightening everyone's day.Last week, when I was walking inside without my car, I caught sight of him and couldn't resist capturing a video of his amazing dedication. It made me wonder if controlling traffic on the road opposite to the gate was part of his duty or job description. Clearly, it wasn't. It was his love for his work that motivated him to go beyond what was expected. This security guard exemplified true leadership. He not only fulfilled his responsibilities but also displayed genuine care for the morning traffic, extending beyond Cummins to even cars entering the opposite company gate. His impeccable style and unwavering commitment were awe-inspiring.Witnessing such passion and leadership leaves me wondering what kind of passion this is. It goes beyond just doing a job; it's about finding purpose and joy in serving others. This security guard exhibited a passion that transcends boundaries and inspires those around him.It also talks about Cummins Culture and Values.Have you ever encountered such inspiring individuals? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this story of passion and leadership at Cummins Gate.#Cummins #leadership #passion #culture #values

The role of leaders in policing has never been under closer scrutiny, but not all of those in command roles can point to a wealth of experience in operational leadership; former Police Scotland superintendent Martin Gallagher PhD believes that successful operational experience – alongside ability and achievement – should be a cornerstone for promotion to the most senior roles.❝An unfortunately growing number of senior officers have very little tangible successful operational experience, particularly at the street level, and use networks and politicking to get on.❞❝Bureaucratisation that created back room empires within policing to service legislation that has been imposed on the service over the last two decades is one factor, where such individuals can thrive in a non-operational realm without doing any policing.❞❝Often those who have specialised do eventually find themselves back in divisional policing, without the experience, knowledge and skills to undertake the duties of the rank they hold. This is a disservice to the individual, policing and the public.❞❝To lead cops you have to understand them. You have to have been one of them, and want to have been one of them. This is the service’s problem. We have far too many who want to lead the service, but never wanted to be part of it.❞https://lnkd.in/egDP2nRJ#lawenforcement #policing #police #leadership #recruitment #promotion

I see so many words here but nothing about service, integrity and justice. These three words are the pillars of Policing and no amount of networking, leadership, ability or being on the frontline is effective without basing them on the above. Policing foremost is about service, protection of others and enforcing justice. We must never ever lose sight of this. #authenticleadership #service #integrity #justice #networkingwithemotionalawareness #ethicalfoundation

**Exciting Transition Ahead: From Army Lieutenant Colonel to JPMorgan Chase**In just one week, I'll embark on a new journey with , marking a significant leap into the corporate world. This transition is not just a change in jobs, but a pivotal moment in my personal and professional growth.Reflecting on my roots: Today, as the School for Command Preparation reconvenes, I find myself caught between worlds. After 21 years in the Army, where I'm in the final 90-day stretch, the feeling of being "in between tribes" is profound. It's a blend of nostalgia and anticipation, as I step out of my Army boots for the last time and into a new realm of possibilities. The journey so far: The last two years have been a time of immense growth and learning. My biggest takeaway? The relentless pursuit of excellence. Stay on the grind, network, and then network some more. It's this ethos that has brought me to where I am today.Transition to the private sector: As I move from my role as a Lieutenant Colonel to a new chapter at JPMorgan, I carry with me the lessons, experiences, and values honed in the Army. I'm ready to apply this unique perspective in the corporate world, contributing to and learning from a new team.A note of gratitude: None of this would have been possible without my mentors, Chris Lord, Brage Garofalo and The Honor Foundation, who have been instrumental in guiding and supporting me through this transition. Their wisdom and encouragement have been a guiding light.Let's connect. As I embark on this new chapter, I look forward to expanding my network. Let's share insights, experiences, and grow together in this ever-evolving professional landscape.#NewBeginnings #MilitaryTransition #JPMorganChase #Leadership #Growth #Networking #ThankYouMentors #TheHonorFoundation
